If you've been to a group sound bath and wondered what a private session would be like, or if you're completely new and want to start with something more personal, a 1:1 vibroacoustic session is worth understanding.
What vibroacoustic means
"Vibroacoustic" simply means using sound vibrations applied directly to the body. In a group sound bath, the instruments are played around you - you hear the sound and feel it through the air. In a vibroacoustic session, warm Himalayan singing bowls are placed directly onto your body and played gently. You feel the vibrations travel through your muscles, joints, and tissue.
It's the difference between standing near a speaker and feeling bass through the floor versus having a targeted, hands-on experience where the vibration is delivered precisely where it's needed.
What to expect
Sessions take place in a private garden studio in Loose, Maidstone. You'll lie on a treatment table, fully clothed, in a quiet, warm space designed for relaxation.
We start with a brief consultation - what's brought you here, how you're feeling, any areas of tension or concern. This isn't a medical assessment; it's about understanding what your body needs so we can tailor the session.
Then the bowls are placed - typically on the back, along the spine, on the chest, or on specific areas of tension. When the bowl is struck or played with a mallet, the vibration travels directly into the tissue beneath. Most people describe it as a deep, warm, buzzing sensation that spreads outward from the bowl.
What's happening physiologically
The vibrations from the bowls operate at low frequencies that penetrate into the body. Research into vibroacoustic therapy suggests several mechanisms:
- Muscle relaxation - vibration encourages tight muscles to release, similar to how a deep tissue massage works but without the pressure
- Pain modulation - some studies suggest that vibroacoustic stimulation can reduce perception of chronic pain
- Vagus nerve activation - direct body contact amplifies the vagal response compared to ambient sound alone
- Nervous system regulation - the combination of warmth, vibration, and sound promotes a shift from sympathetic (stressed) to parasympathetic (resting) nervous system activity
- Improved circulation - gentle vibration may support blood flow to areas of tension or stiffness
Who it's for
1:1 vibroacoustic sessions are particularly suited to people with chronic pain or tension, anyone recovering from injury or surgery (with GP clearance), people who find group settings uncomfortable, those who want a deeper experience than a group sound bath, people dealing with anxiety, insomnia, or high stress levels, and anyone curious about sound therapy who wants to start in a private, unhurried setting.
The difference between treatments
We offer several 1:1 options, each using different instruments. Himalayan Bowl Massage uses bowls placed on the body for a deep vibroacoustic effect. Sonic Drum Massage uses frame drums played close to and on the body for low-frequency vibration. Monolina Massage creates sustained harmonic tones - a "cocoon of sound." Private Sound Bath gives the full immersive experience with gongs, bowls, and chimes played around you. Private Drum Journey offers rhythmic, immersive drumming - both energising and grounding.
If you're not sure which to choose, our Signature Introductory Experience (90 minutes, includes consultation and debrief) is designed as a starting point. We'll guide you through what works best for your body.
Home visits
For those who can't travel easily - whether due to mobility, health, or simply preference - we also offer home visits across Kent. We bring all equipment and create the same experience in your own space.
